Why Collision Damage Requires More Than
What You Can See

A collision is rarely limited to the damage you can see. Modern vehicles are designed to absorb impact, so a scraped bumper or pushed-in quarter panel can sometimes hide bent mounting points, a misaligned headlight, damaged structural components, or a sensor that is no longer positioned correctly.

Front and rear impacts, side impacts, deep scratches through the paint, and damage from hitting a curb or debris can all affect more than the exterior panel. That’s why a proper collision repair begins with inspecting the vehicle beneath the visible damage—not simply repairing what looks damaged from the outside.

1

A technician inspects the vehicle, photographs the damage, and documents what needs repair or replacement. If anything is hidden behind panels, the estimate will note that a teardown is needed to find out.

2

Damaged panels and trim come off so the structure can actually be seen. If more damage is found than the estimate covered, it's documented and the estimate is adjusted before that work proceeds. This is routine in collision repair, not a sign of a bad estimate.

3

Structural repair brings the frame or unibody back to factory dimensions. Panels are straightened where possible, because preserving original metal keeps fit and finish, and replaced when they're torn or too stretched to restore safely.

4

We sand and prime the repaired area, match the colour to your vehicle's actual paint rather than relying on the factory code alone, blend the new paint into surrounding panels so there's no visible edge, then clear coat and polish.

5

Panels, lights, trim and hardware go back on. Because suspension geometry can shift in an impact, a wheel alignment is often part of getting the vehicle back on the road properly.

6

If your vehicle has driver-assistance features, cameras and radar behind the windshield, bumpers and mirrors may need recalibration after a collision. These systems are aimed at specific angles, and if a sensor is off, the system may not perform as designed. Ask about this explicitly if your vehicle has these features - ADAS Calibration

7

Before pickup the vehicle is inspected for panel gaps, paint match, light and sensor function, and warning lights. Walk the vehicle yourself in daylight and ask to see the repair area.

Collision Repair Questions you may have ?

Insurance and the Collision Repair Process

The specifics depend on your policy and your insurer, so confirm them with your insurer rather than relying on general advice. What's generally true: you can ask how the claim and estimate interact before work begins, supplements and approvals are documented in writing, and both processes need to line up before certain work proceeds. California's rules on repairs and claims can change, so verify current requirements with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair or your insurer.

Questions worth asking us

  • Who is my point of contact, and how often will I get updates?

  • Will you show me the hidden damage with photos?

  • How do you handle a supplement if more damage is found?

  • Do you recalibrate ADAS systems in-house, or sublet it?

  • What does your warranty cover, and for how long?
